Why body fat percentage matters more than the scale
Weight alone doesn't tell you what your body is made of — two people at the same weight can have very different amounts of muscle versus fat. Body fat percentage is a far better measure of real progress, especially if you're strength training while losing fat.
Enter your measurements above for an estimate using a standard skinfold/circumference method. For a lab-accurate number, a DEXA scan or hydrostatic weighing is more precise, but this calculator is a reliable, free way to track trends over time.
General body fat ranges
- Athletic: roughly 6-13% (men) · roughly 14-20% (women)
- Fitness: roughly 14-17% (men) · roughly 21-24% (women)
- Average: roughly 18-24% (men) · roughly 25-31% (women)
- These ranges vary by source and by individual — use your own trend over time as the main signal, not a single snapshot
